The 13th edition of The International Meeting on Boron Chemistry (IMEBORON) was held in Platja d’Aro (Girona). The Organizing Committee is pleased to state that more than 300 scientists and accompanying people from 27 countries have taken part at this year’s IMEBORON congress. (more…)

Three contributions to EUROMOF2017 at Delft

Prof. Clara Viñas presented her latter results at the International Conference On Phosphorus, Boron and Silicon – PBSi, cellebrated on 3-7th July 2017 in Paris.

Kids’ Day at ICMAB: Liquid Nitrogen experiments…

On friday 8th september, we invited our daughters, sons, and relatives, between the ages of 1 and 18 to spend one morning with us. More than 80 girls and boys participated in interactive learning activities, which will inspire them and introduce them to Materials Science research. In our group, we did some liquid nitrogen experiments.

A Plenary Lecture and two Oral Presentations at IMEBORON XVI (Hong Kong)

Prof. Francesc Teixidor and Drs Rosario Núñez and José Giner presented their latter results at the 16th Internacional Meeting on Boron Chemistry, cellebrated on 9-13th July at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

  • Prof Teixidor gave a Plenary Lecture entitled “Boron Clusters, Not Just One Chemistry But Also One Opportunity”.
  • Dr Núnez gave an oral presentation entitled “Photoluminescence of Icosahedral Carborane, Borane and Metallacarborane-Based Derivatives”.
  • Dr Giner gave an oral presentation entitled “Dipyridine Carborane Linkers for Metal-Organic-Frameworks: Enhanced Water Stability and Switchable Surface Hydrophobicity-Hydrophilicity “.

LMI’s group prepare electrochromic devices for smart windows

LMI’s group prepare electrochromic devices to be used in smart windows. In this video prussian blue is used as electrochromic layer, supported in a Nanostructured ITO home made in collaboration with Dr. Manuel Lopez de Miguel from the UB.

 

Scientific Disemination

El grup es dedica a unes temàtiques que son o haurien de ser d’interès del gran públic. Així es dedica a la separació de radionúclids, en anglés “partitioning”, d’aigües residuals de centrals nuclears. Sobre aquest tema la Dra. Viñas té preparada una conferència a dos nivells: una per personal d’una educació científica alta i una altre per un públic més ampli. La primera s’ha donat en conferències científiques i la segon s’ha exposat en dues ocasions. Aquesta conferència titulada: Energía Nuclear: Química y tratamiento de residuos pot ésser exposada en centres de docència, recerca ó associacions interessats.
 
La principal especialitat d’aquest grup de recerca son els hidrurs de bor, El NaBH 4 es un dels compostos amb més capacitat de transportar H 2 que existeixen; quatre mols de hidrogen per mol de NaBH 4 i a més es estable en medi bàsic. S’ha comentat i discutit en medis polítics i en medis relacionats amb l’energia si es aquest el compost a considerar com a font d’hidrogen. ACBR Com en el cas dels residus nuclears el Prof. Francesc Teixidor també té preparada una presentació en aquest tema titulada Hydrogen Storage Via Boranes que també pot ésser exposada en centres de docència, recerca ó associacions interessats.
 

El boro, un elemento exótico. Su aplicación en medio ambiente, energía y salud.

Aquesta conferència va dirigida a estudiants de batxillerat, universitaris o de tercer cicle. Descriu l’element i contínua fent un passeig per la història en la utilització pels postres avantpassats dels compostos que ens interessen, els hidrurs de bor. La conferència exposa els diferents tipus de compostos i aplicacions que estudiem al nostre laboratori, tal com catàlisi, extracció de nuclids radioactius, preparació de polímers orgànics, etc.
