Fruitful participation of NN researchers at the Spanish Worm Meeting!

All the N&N researchers working with the model organism C.elegans attended the last 28-29 March 2019 the VII Spanish Worm Meeting (SWM). They were very active participants! One oral presentation was given by Zhongrui Luo (“Evaluation of the nano-bio interaction between superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and Caenorhabditis elegans¨). Amanda Muñoz and Sumithra Srinivasan presented their work in a poster format. Good job!

Irene Anton participated in the Nanobio&Med conference on Barcelona

Irene’s oral presentaiton

From the 20th to the 22nd of November 2018 the PhD fellow Irene Anton attended to the NanoBio&Med conference organized at the Parc Científic of de Barcelona. This multidisciplinary congress was very useful to catch up with the recent advances in the rapidly evolving field of nanobiotechnology. Irene got the opportunity to present her results regarding bacterial nanocellulose interactions with human cells with both a poster and a talk. Her poster entitled “Bacterial nanocellulose and bacterial nanocellulose nanocomposites as substrates for cell culture” was selected for the best poster award sponsored by the journal Biomolecules MDPI.

Thanks to the MDPI publishing group for the prize!

Best POLYMAR2018 oral presentation award for Sole Roig!

From the 8th to the 12th of October 2018 Sole Roig, PhD candidate at the N&N group, participated in the 2nd Conference in Polymer Science (POLYMAR) dedicated to biopolymers and taking place in a cruise through the Aegean sea. Her presentation “Microstructuration and functionalization of bacterial cellulose” was awarded with the Best Oral Presentation by an early stage researcher price sponsored by Publishing MDPI, congratulations Sole!

“POLYMAR2018 was a very interesting congress with a new format I have never seen before. The industrial point of view of most of the talks offered me the possibility to learn new approaches that we can apply on our lab in order to make easier the commercialization of the materials we are investigating.”

Irene Anton attended the 29th European Conference on Biomaterials

From September 9th to 13th, the PhD student Irene Anton stayed in Maastricht (The Netherlands) in order to participate in the ESB Congress 2018. She shared her work with the poster “Bacterial Nanocellulose (BNC) and BNC-TiO2 nanocomposites as cell carriers”. The topic of the conference was “materials for life” and Irene got a very nice opportunity to catch up with the latest advances on her research field.

Miquel Torras at the 3rd International Conference on Polyol Mediated Synthesis

25th-27th of June 2018

Miquel Torras, PhD student at the N&N group, travelled to Madrid to attend the 3rd International Conference on Polyol Mediated Synthesis (ICPMS) held at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM). Miquel presented the talk “Fast and Simple Microwave Synthesis of Multicomponent Gold Nanoparticles”.

Good job Miquel!

Jan participated in the 1st Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials

7th-8th of June 2018

Jan Grzelak, PhD student at the N&N group, travelled to Madrid to attend the 1st Spanish Conference on Biomedical Applications of Nanomaterials (SBAN) held at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid (ICMM). Jan presented the poster “Mesoporous silica nanorods as theranostic platforms”.

Irene Anton was at the 31st Conference of the European Colloid and Interface Society

From the 3rd to the 8th of September of 2017 Irene Anton, a Ph.D. student from the N&N group, attended a big meeting of Colloids and Interfaces in Madrid (ECIS2017). The event was hosted by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Irene participated with two posters and was awarded with one of the two prizes sponsored by the journal Polymers.
